Pork leads Philippine meat imports in 2017

Pork accounted for the bulk of the Philippines’ meat imports in 2017 at 305,479 tonnes, posting a 10.65% increase from the 2016 figures, according to the Bureau of Animal Industry (BAI).

BAI records also show that Philippine meat imports in 2017 went up by nearly 7% to a record-high volume of 691,462.564 tonnes due to growing demand from Filipino consumers for processed-meat products. Last year’s imports surpassed the 646,503.7 tonnes recorded in 2016.
