Thailand buys U.S. wheat; Australia sells to SE Asia

Thai flour mills bought about 100,000 tonnes of U.S. wheat in recent deals, while exporters in Australia sold around 25,000 tonnes of the grain to be delivered into Southeast Asia.

Thai mills purchased U.S. soft white wheat at $215-$220 a tonne, including cost and freight (C&F), hard red winter wheat with 12.5 percent protein at $240-$245 and spring wheat with 14.5 percent protein at $255-$260 a tonne, two trade sources said on Friday.

The deals, signed last week, are for the cargoes to be delivered in September.

Separately, Australian exporters sold 25,000 tonnes of prime wheat with 10.5 percent protein at $222 a tonne free on board Western Australia.

“This shipment is meant for a destination in Southeast Asia, either Indonesia or Malaysia,” said a trader who was aware of the deal.

Black Sea wheat with 11.5 percent protein was being offered this week into Asia at around $197 a tonne, C&F.
