Thailand has not struck a deal on US pork imports. Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha said he did not discuss the issue with US President, Donald Trump, during his recent visit to the White House. Surachai Sutthitham, President of the Swine Raisers Association of Thailand told Asian Agribiz: “The matter is not over yet.
We will follow developments closely.” Mr Surachai said there has been pressure from the US to open up the Thai pork market. If the deal goes through, it will push livestock producers, and corn and soybean farmers into bankruptcy, he said. Meanwhile, Mr Surachai said the association has appointed a lawyer, threatening to sue whoever opens the Thai pork market to the US.
